Refugee Counseling and Mediation

FPH continues working with refugees in the Kigeme Refugee Camp offering on-going training  in the art of Conflict Transformation and Trauma Healing. Counselors and Mediators, who are residents in the camp themselves, help fellow refugees with conflicts and various other issues related to living in transition. Many refugees together also work through trauma sustained before coming to Rwanda. The work of these mediation counselors is aimed at both short-term and long-term healing. Refugee residents in the Kigeme Refugee Camp are seeking current counseling for past trauma. Yet during these trainings, refugees also learn how to care for themselves and others for situations they might encounter in the future.

Friends Peace House also works with newly returned Refugees who are returning to their communities. We provide resource connection, counseling and mediation for these Rwandans who struggle with the transition back to their home where they previously had fled from severe conflict.
